Moscow.AFP Russia mourned Thursday the death of the old glory of the circus soviet Oleg Popov, 86-year-old, the clown, world’s oldest that was still acting.
Popov was the victim of a cardiac arrest at the hotel where he was staying, during a tour in Rostov-sur-le-Don, in southern Russia, according to the director of the circus in local, Dimitri Reznitshenko.
"Her heart stopped. Not complained of any pain). I was just watching the television", declared the agency of Russian media RIA Novosti.
the body of The artist will be repatriated to Germany where he lived with his family since the fall of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), said Reznitshenko.
The clown, famous in the whole world, was born in Moscow in 1930, in the bosom of a modest family that had no ties with the circus. At the age of 14, he entered the school of circus of Moscow, where he learned to juggle and to walk on a rope at the same time.
the 19-year-old started his career within the Company State of the circus, which opened way back in 1954, when he had to replace the clown main that had been injured.
Two years later he participated in the first international tour of a circus soviet, organized by the authorities in order to improve the image of the USSR in the world.
"Had managed to create that one image of a clown, eccentric, able to illuminate (the circus) appearing only once. Every one of his performances was a feast," declared the Russian minister of Culture Vladimir Medinski, who presented his condolences in a statement.
The great circus of Moscow greeted his "invaluable contribution to the history of the art of the circus in Russian and abroad" and the Russian company of the circus, he emphasized the "talent proteiforme" of the artist.
