VIDEO: Freddie Mercury, 25 years of his goodbye – The Press

there Are few artists that manage to break the time barrier and transcend multiple generations, and both Freddie Mercury as the grouping Queen have achieved that after 25 years of the death of the singer, his songs remain in the mind of its old and new followers.

Mercury was born in Tanzania on September 5, 1946 and spent a good part of his childhood in India, where he also began to receive piano lessons at seven years of age. In 1964 his family moved to the United Kingdom, where the singer would join a band of ‘blues’ so-called Wreckage, to the couple that he was studying graphic design in the Ealen College of Art. In the corridors of this institute, a fellow in common he would introduce her to Roger Taylor and Brian May, founding member of the Queen.

The band was formed in London in 1970, and in 1973 signed their first recording contract. With Queen he recorded 15 albums, in addition to a production posthumously and several ‘remixes’, and compilations. As a composer, Freddie Mercury is the creator of hits such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Somebody To Love’, ‘We Are The Champions’ and ‘Bicycle Race’.

In 1987 would make one of their performances is memorable, outside of those recorded with Queen, and in which he would leave the ‘rock’ demonstrating the strength of his singing. In ‘Barcelona’, Mercury fulfilled one of his dreams to share the stage with the singer lírica española with Montserrat Caballé. This subject would, in 1992, the hymn for the olympics that year would be carried out in Barcelona.

Between 1989 and 1990 it was recorded on ‘Innuendo’, the last disc of Freddie Mercury Queen. In the video of ‘Im Going Slightly Mad’, a song included in this album, it was already evident deterioration in the health of the interpreter, who would never make an official statement on this issue until the day before his death.

November 23, 1991 Freddie Mercury would make the only official statement about their state of health, confirming that he had aids, and called for the union of his followers to fight this disease. The next day, and after a bronchopneumonia complicated by aids, died.

The concerts of Queen were a spectacle from beginning to end: sets of lights, locker rooms, and a Mercury was able to play with the public and commend him with his charisma and force. One of the most remembered performances was in 1985 during the charity event Live Aid, and in that the group played in less than 25 minutes to the best songs of his repertoire.

The magazine ‘Rolling Stone’ included in the year 2010 to Mercury in their list of the 100 greatest singers of all time, placing it in 18th place. In statements gathered by the magazine, Gerard Way, singer of My Chemical Romance, notes that Mercury is "the interpreter most inspiring of all time".

An idol that broke new ground and changed the world of music. A voice that was shut down early, but which is immortalized by its unique style. Freddie Mercury, the music legend that today celebrates 25 years in the pantheon of ‘rock’.
