It’s official: Bob Dylan will not go to collect his Nobel prize for Literature – Univision (press Release)

The singer-songwriter, american will be unable to travel to Stockholm in December because of other commitments, reported the Swedish Academy.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) in the afternoon, the Swedish Academy received a letter from Bob Dylan explaining that, due to previous commitments, will not be able to travel to Stockholm in December and, therefore, may not be present at the ceremony of the Nobel prize”, reported the Academy in a statement.

Dylan “stressed again that is highly honored (for the prize) and you would have liked to meet him personally”, he added.

The Academy explained that it is unusual for a award-winning do not go to the ceremony, but that this has happened before, as in the recent case of the british Doris Lessing (awarded in 2007) and Harold Pinter (awarded in 2005). The austrian Elfriede Jelinek was also not pick up yours in 2004.

“The prize is still owned, as it still belongs to Bob Dylan,”, said the Academy.

The artist however, must comply with the single requirement: to provide a speech within the six months following the December 10, 2016, said the Academy.

At that time left the door open to their participation in the ceremony. But now we know that that will not happen.
