Soul singer Sharon Jones lost his fight against cancer – The Journey online

New York. The soul singer Sharon Jones has died at the age of 60 on Friday after losing his battle against pancreatic cancer, according to reports in its web page.

fame came to Jones from 2002 after several albums with her group The Dap Kings, of which he was lead vocalist, and their memorable concerts.

The singer died surrounded by her family and friends. Were also to their side members of the Dap Kings.

In 2013, Jones returned to the stage after a first diagnosis of cancer. In total he published seven albums with the independent label Daptone Records. The last, 'It’s a Holiday Soul Party', went on the market in 2015.

Known for his strong and penetrating voice, the star of the soul was nominated also to the Grammys. The career of the singer took force when she had already spent many years on stage. The jump of a member of the chorus singer of the group got to Jones when she was already 40 years old.

Born on may 4, 1956 in Augusta, Georgia, Jones released his first single Damn it’s hot in 1996. Before, he worked as officer and prison guard. His childhood was marked by racial segregation in the southern states of the united States and subsequently by the tension and violence in the new york neighborhood of Brooklyn. He began singing in choirs and gospel. A few months ago, he left to tour with his new single I’m Still Here, in spite of the side effects of chemotherapy.

“Exit to the stage is my therapy,” he said then in a statement to the daily newspaper The New York Times. “You have to see life as it is. No one knows how much you have left. But now I am strong and I want to follow,” said the singer, who never wanted to know anything of major labels, and preferred to follow an independent.

“For them I was always too small, too fat, too black and too old,” he said on a certain occasion to remember his beginnings as a singer.
