Diva of soul, Sharon Jones, dies at 60 | The Commerce Peru – Trade

american singer Sharon Jones, one of the voices most recognizable soul and funk contemporaries with her band, The Dap-Kings, died Friday at the age of 60 years as a result of cancer of the pancreas, as announced by their representative.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer,” according to the official press release. “He died surrounded by her loved ones, including his own band”.

doctors diagnosed Jones with pancreatic cancer in 2013 while the disease went into remission nine months later. However, the singer made public the re-emergence of the disease in the premiere of the documentary “Miss Sharon Jones!”. The cancer quickly spread to his lungs, his liver and his lymphatic system.

Sharon Jones, born in Augusta (Georgia) in 1956, he recorded seven albums with his band, with which she starred in spectacular live concerts. “I’m just trying to do what I like, my way. And people are responding,” said Jones in 2008 when he was asked if finally it had become the great heiress of the funk music female after years of darkness.
