Guatemala joins the sorrow for the death of Leonard Cohen – Terra.com

The minister of Culture and Sports of Guatemala, José Luis Chea, expressed regret today of the death of the poet, novelist and singer-songwriter canadian Leonard Cohen, who passed away this Friday in Los Angeles, California.

In a statement, the officer expressed his condolences “to the world of poetry and music by the irreparable loss of one of the most prolific artists of his generation.”

Leonard Cohen, born September 21, 1934 in Montreal in the bosom of a jewish family with roots in eastern Europe, was one of the poets and singers, canada’s most well-known internationally.

Cohen maintained a close relationship with the Spanish culture. In his teens he developed an early passion for the work of the poet Federico García Lorca, and one of his first guitar teachers was a young man exiled Spanish in Montreal that got him started in the flamenco.

Chea expressed his desire that the legacy of Cohen “built in” inspiration for the new generations of literature and music in all the world.
