Thirty-one candidates competing for the first prize … Princesa – El Universal (Venezuela)

Oviedo.- Thirty-one candidates from 19 countries compete for the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts will fail on Wednesday, the first to be granted under the new name the awards, adapted to the current heir to the Spanish crown, Leonor of Spain.

The failure of Arts award and open the thirty-fifth edition of the Princess of Asturias (northern Spain) endowed prizes in eight categories with the reproduction of a sculpture designed by Joan Miró, a sum of money of 50,000 euros (about $ 56,000), a diploma and a badge.

the jury, which will begin its deliberations on Tuesday and make public its failure the next day and traditionally chaired by businessman Jose Llado, be part, among others, the filmmaker José Luis Cienfuegos; publishers Catalina Luca de Tena, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart and Ellen Ochoa Hans; the director of the Museo del Prado, Miguel Zugaza; and theater director Josep Maria Flotats.

In 2014 the Arts Award went to the architect Frank O. Gehry and in previous years it received, among others, Michael Haneke, Riccardo Muti, Norman Foster, Woody Allen, Paco de Lucia, Vittorio Gassmann, Fernando Fernan Gomez, Bob Dylan, Miquel Barcelo, Pedro Almodovar, Oscar Niemeyer, Eduardo Chillida and Luis Garcia Berlanga.
