Why April 15 is the World Day of art? – Diario El Siglo

There was an agreement on the planet to set this date as a universal celebration, but in 2012 more than 150 artists from different countries promoted recognize as the birth of Leonardo Da Vinci.

Each April 15 we celebrate the World Day of art, its celebration if you like is recent, and barely began performing in 2012.

Although the United Nations has not stipulated date as a universal celebration, a proposal in the seventeenth General Assembly of the Association International Fine Artists, held in Guadalajara Mexico, was supported by more than 150 artists on the planet.

This association works with Unesco. Creole artists represent the country in conjunction with 13 other countries in the region, who were central to the first celebration, and since then contribute the same.

The date was chosen in honor of the day birth of Leonardo da Vinci, who was selected as a worldwide symbol of peace, tolerance, fraternity and cultural multiplicity, making clear how art is also important in other fields of human life.

Controversy 2013

Just one year to sit celebrating the date, it happened a controversy in the celebrations in Sweden, when the Swedish Minister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, cut the genitals of a cake depicting an African American woman. The act was intended as a statement against genital mutilation, but many attendees interpreted representation as racist.

Who was da Vinci?

Leonardo da Vinci was a prolific teacher that developed in multiple stages of human creation, among them: painting, medicine, architecture, arts, botany, science, literature, sculpture, philosophy, engineering, music, poetry and technology

Born in Vinci April 15, 1452 and passed away. Amboise on May 2, 1519, at age 67. It was one of the most prodigious minds recognized worldwide
