Global sales of digital music equate physical sales … – lanacion.com (Argentina)

Worldwide sales of digital music matched first physical sales in 2014, encouraged by the success of online music services (streaming), according to figures released Tuesday by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

The agency, based in London, believes the rise of streaming as good news for the music industry, whose sales were reduced, however, by 0.4% last year, to 14.965 million dollars.

“For the first time in history, revenues from recorded music come equally from digital sales (46%) and physical sales (46 %), “said IFPI. The remainder relates to the rights of broadcasting, advertising or cinema, among other things.

Frances Moore, CEO of IFPI, believes the digital business will exceed the physical in the next two years.

“We found that the streaming it really dominates the digital market and we can imagine that, one day, most music sales” are in that format, told AFP. A phenomenon linked with technological innovations and development of smartphones.

The service subscriptions, which allow music streaming so ilimitada- remain relatively low in the industry, but income generate increased by 39% in 2014, to 1.57 billion dollars, according to the IFPI.

According to the organization, 41 million people pay for such services like Spotify Swedish or French Deezer, among others.

Command that market boom, rapper and producer of hip-hop Jay Z has just launched its own music streaming platform, Tidal, with stars like Madonna or Daft Punk group.

The IFPI tries to get sites like YouTube pay license fees, as well as streaming services.

The status of Internet service provider YouTube, owned by US giant Google allows you to benefit from an exemption from copyright.

This is a problem for the music industry, since half of users who listened to music during the last six months it did so through pages YouTube and Dailymotion.
