MADRID (Reuters) – The Altamira Museum Board said Thursday it has approved maintain controlled visits to the cave to ensure conditions of stability and conservation of the site .
In this way, maintains visits to the cave “as is being developed in a controlled and limited way to access five people and two guides a week.”
The access protocol consists of a visit of 37 minutes, with an itinerary and length of stay defined for each area of the cave. Visitors must wear special lighting and dress disposable overalls, hat, masks and shoes, all delivered by the Museum, said the Board in a press release.
The cave was closed to the public between 2002 and 2014. Since February last year, five visits per week are drawn between public Altamira Museum.
