Santa Teresa de Jesús, the National Library of Spain – El Universal

Putting images to life and literary work of Santa Teresa Jesus , to all that he wrote, which has a “incalculable” value is the aim of the big show that tomorrow can be seen in the National Library , under “Teresa of Jesus. The proof of the truth”.
 

 An exhibition that opened today at the Kings of Spain, during the commemoration of the V Centenary of the birth of Santa Teresa, which meets on March 28 and has been organized by Spanish Cultural Action and the National Library in collaboration with other institutions and 22 convents, which contributed pieces you see first.
 

 

 Over 110 pieces including books, prints, sculptures and several videos showing the “immense richness of his life, his work as founder and above all, originality and beauty of his literary work” in an exhibition curated by Rosa Navarro Durán, philologist and Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Barcelona and Dobado Juan Fernández, Discalced Carmelite, BA in Art History and Museum director John of the Cross.
 

 

 The exhibition tells the story of Teresa of Jesus from his written words take shape for the visitor who shares so thought of this “unique” woman and “transgressive” work; reader since childhood, who was persecuted by the Inquisition, and pioneered the testimonial and biographical writing with The Book of Life or Way of Perfection .
 

 

 Works from the Prado Museum, National Heritage, School of Fine Arts of San Fernando and 22 convents, among others, make this major exhibition opens with a work by Rubens, a picture of Santa Teresa, on loan from the Museum Roitman Rotterdam.
 

 

 Alonso Cano, Zurbarán and Rivera are some of the great writers who made paintings of Carmelite religious and preserved in half the world, in the words of Juan Dobado.
 

 

 The National Library lends the exhibition a copy of Index of prohibited books , an engraving by Dürer or copies of espistolario Santa Teresa and a first edition did Fray Luis de León in 1588.
