Conchita Wurst sing with Placido Domingo – The Universal

Opera and pop will be merged on 17 May at the Vienna State Opera in a gala starring the Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, the Peruvian Juan Diego Flórez and the Austrian singer Conchita Wurst, within the Eurovision program celebrating the day 23 final in the Austrian capital.

“Sunday agreed immediately,” he told Efe a spokesman for the Viennese theater, which has left the idea of holding this concert under the name “Pop meets Opera”.

Tickets, priced at between 7 and 60 euros, sold out almost immediately, although the Vienna State Opera has wanted that the audience has a chance to enjoy the show and agreed to rebroadcast the ORF, the Austrian public television.

The gala, with the participation of musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic, will also be projected on a giant screen outside the Opera and issued free by the pay per view system which operates this theater.

“I bet build bridges rather than walls,” said Dominique Meyer, theater director, explaining the reason for this gala.

The 60th Eurovision motto is “Building Bridges” (building bridges) and this concert Opera wants to give an opportunity for “artists build bridges with his music and conversation among various musical genres and cultures”.

Conchita Wurst, the alter ego of homosexual singer Tom Neuwirth , won last year’s Festival Eurovision and has become a symbol of the struggle for gay rights and respect for differences.

The concert program will be announced in April and sources indicated that Opera has not yet been decided whether the singers will perform together some theme or act separately.
