The full Spanish Royal Academy moved today to La Mancha (center), the stage of the quixotic adventures, to pay tribute to Cervantes , true protagonist of a session which was also discussed on words like “selfie” and “chakra”.

Given the over 400 people who filled the theater Argamasilla de Alba, writer Arturo Perez-Reverte used the occasion to assert that cultural Route of Don Quixote is enhanced and which is due “economic support , political and social. ”

After open to the public that the Academy held in 2012 in Cádiz (south), to pay tribute to the 1812 Constitution full, academic Argamasilla de Alba chose for its second extraordinary session to mark the fourth centenary of the publication of the second part of Don Quixote.

Moreover, as the director of the SAR, Dario Villanueva, the principle of full, one of the objectives of the Academy said is “keeping alive the memory” of those who contribute to the glory of the letters in Spanish, and no one doubts the importance Cervantes in that regard.

In Argamasilla is Medrano cave where, according to tradition, Cervantes was imprisoned, and today was visited by twenty scholars and four Latin American Spanish, accompanied by the local mayor, Pedro Ángel Jiménez.

Previously, they had all made a stop at the windmills of Alcazar de San Juan, to pose for the symbol best preserved of those mentioned in “Don Quixote”.

In the language of Don Quixote referred in full lexicographer Pedro Alvarez de Miranda, who tracked footprint “that literary prodigy” in the Spanish language, which has become the common names Quixote own voice and dulcinea, rocinante and maritornes . Those words are in academic English.

Derivatives as “donquijotesco”, “quixotic”, “quijotil”, “sanchopancesco”, “squire”, are part of our language, as does the expression “windmills” with the value “fantastic and imaginary enemies.”

And there buzzwords and phrases that are attributed to “Quijote”, although not on it, or at least not as pronounced. This is the case of “righting a wrong”, that Cervantes’ novel is actually “righting wrongs”.

Speeches aside, the session went like either a Thursday at the headquarters of Madrid SAR and, as tradition dictates, the city began with prayers in Latin.

No doubt, it was a rare opportunity for many attendees to see academics in action, talking to you each other, although many of them are friends, and speaking to argue case for or against what is debated at all times.

At the meeting, the nomination of director Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón was proclaimed, the only submitted, to fill the vacancy left in this institution by José Luis Sampedro, who José Manuel Sánchez Ron read a wide obituary.

One of the highlights was the discussion of words that could be incorporated into the dictionary as “selfie”, “chakra” and a new meaning of “pathetic” adjective, present in examples as “political speech that was pathetic “.

Juan Luis Cebrian academic defended the inclusion of “selfie” written and in English, although the Foundation of Urgent Spanish, who chose that word as the most representative of 2014, prefers “selfi” is written.

Cebrian said a possible definition of “selfie” “one takes photograph of himself with a digital camera or smartphone, often to share on social networks.”

There will also decide the gender of the word: a “selfie” or “selfie” ?, As with “chakra”, a word itself Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies that proposed the philologist Inés Fernández Ordóñez and whose spelling is unclear: “chakra” or “farm”?

And Luis Mateo Díez justified the need to include a new twist on the pathetic adjective, equivalent to “something painful, regrettable, deplorable”.
