The family of the recently deceased Duchess of Alba wanted to auction a letter from Christopher Columbus valued at 21 million euros (about 470 million lempiras in relation to the current exchange rate).
But a Madrid court prevented the sale of the document which was sent in 1498 by Christopher Columbus to his son Diego. Christie’s valued the letter, which measures 162 millimeters by 200, at 21 million euros.
In addition to denying the sale, the court asks the Community of Madrid, including the manuscript in the list of Goods Cultural.
Columbus
Columbus sailed on August 3, 1492 from Palos (southwestern Spain) with the caravels “Santa Maria”, “The Pinta “and” La Niña “with the aim of finding a route to Asia.
On October 12 of that year Columbus landed on the island of Guanahani, which historians have identified as part of the archipelago of the Bahamas in what is popularly known as the “discovery of America” knows

Columbus continued his expedition to the Caribbean coming to the island of Cuba on October 28 and the Spanish, or Island of Santo Domingo, the December 6.
Following the sinking of the “Santa Maria” in late 1492 and construction of the fort, in January 1493, Columbus returned to Spain with two other ships of his first expedition to inform Queen Elizabeth the outcome of the trip.
