Picasso became the most expensive auction – El Diario de Yucatan

New York, (EFE) .- The painting “ Les femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’) ” by Pablo Picasso, today became the most expensive painting ever auctioned to reach the 179.36 million dollars in a bid at Christie’s in New York.

The work, conducted by the Spanish painter in 1955 and with dimensions of 1.14 by 156.4 centimeters, is the culmination of a series of 15 paintings with which revised the key Cubist painting of the same title by French artist Eugene Delacroix, which came to haunt and in which he thought he saw the last of his wives Jacqueline Roque.

This mature work of Picasso , which was auctioned in 1997 for 32 million, has risen to more than the price of “Three Studies of Lucian Freud” by Francis Bacon triptych sold at auction in 2013 for 142.4 million dollars
