Alicia Alonso regrets death of Spanish intellectual Santiago Castelo – Radio Cadena Agramonte





Havana, 31 may.- The Cuban prima ballerina Alicia Alonso assoluta lamented the death of the Spanish writer Santiago Castelo, poet, scholar and journalist, linked for years to the Cuban Culture.

Until his death Friday in Madrid, at 66 years old, Castelo led the Royal Academy of Extremadura of the Letters and Arts in Spain and was a member of the Cuban Academy of Language.

The director of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) recalled with pleasure the admiration and friendship that professed this academic to it and the Cuban poet Dulce Maria Loynaz, Cervantes Prize for Literature (1993).

In addition, Alonso described the journalist as a fan of Cuban ballet, which he promoted for decades in Spain.

Castelo participated in several international festivals of Ballet in Havana, as art critic, since the beginning of the 1980s.

Among his publications, has dedicated to Cuba as books Habaneras (1995) and Cuban Leaves (1997) titles.

With his background in literature, Castelo received several awards including the Hispanic Heritage Award for Poetry in 1973, and Fastenrath prize of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1982, among others. (PL) (Photo: File)
