Alicia Alonso regrets death of Spanish journalist Santiago Castelo – Prensa Latina

May 30, 2015, 14:44 Havana, May 30 (PL) Cuban prima ballerina Alicia Alonso assoluta today lamented the death of the Spanish writer Santiago Castelo, poet, scholar and journalist, linked for years to Cuban culture.

 Until his death yesterday in Madrid, at age 66, Castelo led the Royal Academy of Extremadura of the Letters and Arts in Spain and was a member of the Cuban Academy of Language. The director of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) recalled with pleasure the admiration and friendship that this academic professed her and the Cuban poet Dulce Maria Loynaz, Cervantes Prize for Literature (1993).

In addition, Alonso described the journalist as Cuban ballet enthusiast, which promoted for decades in Spain.

Castelo participated in several International Ballet Festival of Havana, as art critic, since the beginning of the 1980s

Among his publications, has dedicated to Cuba as books Habaneras (1995) and Cuban Leaves (1997) titles.

With his background in literature, Castelo received several awards as the Hispanic Poetry Award in 1973, and Fastenrath prize of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1982, among others
