Western, action and drama: the Oscar nominated films – Milenio.com

From the western ‘The Revenant’, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, to the road movie ‘Mad Max’ by George Miller, here are the eight films competing for the Oscar on 28 February.

The nominees were announced this morning by the Academy of American Cinema, and ‘The Revenant’ are favorites of the 88 award ceremony because accumulates 12 nominations. Closely follows ‘Mad Max’, with 10.

The Big Short (Now showing)
With a cast that includes Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and Steve Carell, the film puts onscreen satítrica funny way and why it happened the financial crisis 2008. The characters are a group of opportunists who, to discover what is to happen with the stock market, find ways to make a profit, while millions of people worldwide will be affected by mismanagement real estate in the United States.

Bridge of Spies (premiered on October 4)
Set in the 60s, the film presents Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell), a US pilot whose plane is shot down by the Russians. Thus, the insurance specialist lawyer James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks) is recruited by the CIA in charge of negotiating the release of the soldier.

Brooklyn (still no release date)
Directed by John Crowley, is based on the novel of the same title, written by Colm Toibin. Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan) is a young Irish woman who, in the 50s, moved to Brooklyn, where he meets Tony (Emory Cohen), an italoestadunidense the man who fall in love.

Mad Max (to be released on May 14)
Directed by George Miller, the film is starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. It presents max rockatansky former trooper, who is allied with Immortan Furious Joe to topple the leader pressing and holding the war. The story was voted Best Film of 2015 by The National Board of Review in the United States.

The Martian (premiered on October 1)
Matt Damon plays the astronaut Mark Watney, who is presumed dead on Mars, and should use their knowledge botany to survive on Earth until they discover that remains alive and made a risky rescue operation.

The Revenant (January 22)
Many say that this film could finally give the Oscar for Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the nineteenth century explorer Hugh Glass ( DiCaprio). The character almost died after being attacked by a bear and buried alive by John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), who also kills his son. Thus, Glass seek revenge.

Room (January 29)
Joy Newsome, also known as Ma is enclosed with her five-year-old in a garden shed. It all started when Old Nick deceived Ma to help find a lost dog. Then he was kidnapped and taken to Room, the garden shed in the backyard of the house of Old Nick. Seven years later, Ma and his son Jack are still locked in Room, wanting to leave.

Spotlight (Jan. 15)
The film tells with surgical precision the journalistic investigation that uncovered the child sexual abuse in the Catholic church of Boston. According to its director, Tom McCarthy, the film shows some “evil committed against innocent children” abuse “double abuse”, physical and spiritual, since it came from priests and the victims belonged to families for whom religion was very important.
