Sundance crown “The Birth of a Nation” – ABC Color

LOS ANGELES. The independent film festival Sundance (Park City, Utah) presented their awards, which recognized the film “The Birth of a Nation”.

With the award for best dramatic film and the American prize awarded by the public in that category, The Birth of a Nation was one of the big winners of this year.

The directed film starring, written and produced by the black artist Nate Parker tells the story of Nat Turner, a former slave who leading a liberation movement in 1831 and caused a backlash from whites. Over the film festival could not be more successful as this week it emerged that the studio Fox Searchlight acquired the distribution rights for The Birth of a Nation for a record 17.5 million.

Meanwhile, the award for best documentary went to the American film Weiner , a film of Josh Kriegman following steps political Anthony Weiner . Founded in 1981 by Robert Redford , the Sundance Film Festival has discovered over years of independent gems like Beasts of the Southern Wild , Fruitvale Station , Blackfish , Super Size Me , Little Miss Sunshine , Sex, Lies and Videotape , Reservoir Dogs , Precious or Napoleon Dynamite . In this year 12,793 jobs were submitted, which were chosen for the competition to 123 films from 37 countries.
