Frey died Monday in New York at age 67 of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis and acute pneumonia. He was born in Detroit and formed the band with Don Henley in 1971 in Los Angeles.

Frey and Henley had humble beginnings playing for another legend, Linda Ronstadt. They formed when the Eagles signed with Asylum Records David Geffen. His successful blend of rock and country was something that others tried but the Eagles dominated with great skill. Who else won Grammy awards between 1975 and 2008, in the categories of rock, pop and country?

The band released some of the most popular songs of the 70′s: “Take It Easy” written by Frey and Jackson Browne, is irresistible with Frey lead vocals and harmonies, and “Hotel California”, emotional rock ballad, also co-written by Frey, is a classic.

“Hotel California” was just one of the songs of the Eagles who came to lead the Hot 100 Billboard, “Heartache Tonight”, “New Kid in Town”, “One of These Nights “and” Best of My Love “also reached No. 1.

Frey and Henley wrote most of his hits and were known as one of the greatest composers equipment. Two discs of the band are among the biggest selling albums of all time, “Eagles Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)” and “Hotel California” 1976, which sold over 20 million copies each. It is a rare feat for an artist of any genre and made the Eagles the most successful American band in history.

The band, however, broke up in 1980 in a dramatic way in a political fundraiser in which members of the group are threatened each other during their performance, which is She explored in the 2013 documentary “History of the Eagles”. Later there were other dramas: after receiving a brutal ultimatum business Frey, Don Felder left the assembled group; guitarist Bernie Leadon he poured beer over the head Frey to get out of the band; and bassist Randy Meisner left when I did not want to sing “Take It to the Limit”, its flagship theme.

After their breakup, Frey recorded solo albums and achieved success with the songs “You Belong to the City” and “The Heat is On”.

Fourteen years after their separation in 1980, the Eagles came back and threw her “Hell Freezes Over” (The hell freezes), whose name alluded to the band told it would not meet “until hell freezes over.”

In 1998, the Eagles were inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & amp; Roll. A year later, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA, for its acronym in English) included the Eagles on their list of artists of the century, along with the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Elton John and Garth Brooks.

Henley Frey said he was like a brother to him and that the bond forged 45 years ago never broke, even when the Eagles were dissolved.

“We were two young men who did the pilgrimage to Los Angeles with the same dream,” he said. “Leaving our mark on the music industry.”

And that, they succeeded.
