Celine Dion’s husband loses battle against cancer – The Universal

LAS VEGAS Rene Angelil, husband and manager Canadian singer Celine Dion, died at his home in a suburb of Las Vegas. He was 73 and had battled throat cancer.

Angelil died in Henderson where he was cared for by a physician, said the county coroner of Clark John Fudenberg.

The death occurred natural causes and an investigation was not expected to respect Fudenberg said. The coroner’s office was informed of the death on Thursday

A message on the official website of Dion in Facebook also confirmed the loss. “With great sadness we announce Rene Angelil, 73, died this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family prefers to grieve in private “

Celine Dion and Rene Angelil have three children. Rene-Charles, born in 2001, and the twins Nelson and Eddy, who were born in 2010. Angelil also a son and a daughter from two previous marriages.

Dion, who was 26 years younger than Angelil, married his representative at an elaborate ceremony in 1994 at the Basilica of Notre Dame in Montreal. Angelil used to always be with him.

The singer has won Grammy Awards for songs like the theme of Titanic , “My Heart Will Go On”. He resumed his performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace hotel in August after a year’s break to care for her husband.

History. Angelil was born in Montreal, his mother was Canadian and his father was Syrian. It was part of the group Les Baronnets until 1972, when he began managing the careers of several singers in Quebec.

The mother of Dion sent a tape by mail and asked him to listen, the singer had at that then 12 years. Angelil took over his career and released her first album in English in 1990. In 2003, Angelil was embroiled in a murky incident when a couple tried to extort millions of dollars to keep hidden an alleged sexual assault.

The couple was sentenced to prison for the accusation was false.
