The Turkish police seized in Istanbul of a painting of Pablo Picasso stolen to a New York collector, said Saturday the Anatolia news agency .
Suspected traffickers trying to sell the box Picasso “Woman Combing Her Hair” (1940), when police were disguised as potential buyers arrested them and seized the artwork , police sources said the agency.
The disguised police negotiated with dealers for the first time in a hotel and then on a yacht in Istanbul. These traffickers initially demanded eight million dollars for the box Picasso.
After agreeing to sell seven million, policemen disguised planned a date at a bar in Istanbul, where were arrested.
The woman who inspired the Spanish teacher when he painted this picture is Dora Maar, who was Picasso’s companion and model.
