The American singer Lauryn Hill has canceled a concert planned to give in Israel on Thursday following boycott calls by human rights groups pro Palestinians, local media reported today.

local production sources told the newspaper Yediot Aharonot that the concert was to be held in the city of Rishon Lezion, south of Tel Aviv, but sensed that something was wrong when in recent days their representatives did not reply to your emails and calls.

Yesterday the official notification came via a message on the social network Twitter the singer in which he said that his intention was to act in Tel Aviv and Ramallah in a show of “support for justice and peace. ”

“It’s very important to me that my presence or message will not be misinterpreted, or a source of alienation to my fans Israelis or Palestinians,” wrote the singer of “Killing Me Softly”.

“For this reason, we decided to cancel the concert in Israel, and seek a different strategy to bring my music to my fans in the region”, he added.

Like other singers and authors working in Israel, Hill had received in recent months numerous requests from pro-Palestinian groups to be added to the campaign of cultural, academic and divestment boycott against this country by the occupation of Palestinian lands.

“Palestinian rights activists are celebrating the announcement of Lauryn Hill canceling his concert in Israel,” he said in a statement the BDS movement, which drives the campaign.

Haidar Eid, a member of the committee in Gaza, said that “a growing number of important artists are catching up with public opinion and understand now that Israel act in this country helps to whiten their oppression Colonial Palestinians. ”

Unlike Hill, last week the British Robbie Williams rejected similar requests by the BDS and his colleague Roger Waters, former leader of Pink Floyd, to suspend his concert in Tel Aviv, reminding death half thousand children in the last war in Gaza last summer.

Williams, who had included Israel in its world tour “Let Me Entertain You” finally celebrated the concert before 40,000 spectators at the main stage of the country.
