funk singer Errol Brown, whose song with the band Hot Chocolate “You Sexy Thing” a phenomenon of the disco era and remained in history as subject of the film “The Full became Monty “, died on Wednesday at the 71.

Brown, who was born in Jamaica but lived most of his life in Britain, where received a knighthood for his cultural contribution , he died of liver cancer at his home in the Bahamas, said his manager, Phil Dale.

Dale called it “a wonderful gentleman” who never stopped writing new songs. “I always had music wherever he was.”

Brown a pop star turned after he and his friend Tony Wilson, founder of Hot Chocolate, decided in late 60s make versions of reggae hits.


After calling the attention of John Lennon for his cover of “Give Peace a Chance”, the band signed to Apple Records although soon after he moved to another label.

Hot Chocolate became one of the few British bands with black members who achieved commercial success in the 70s and positioned numerous dance tracks on discs.


In the mid-80, he launched “You Sexy Thing”, which in 1997 was the focus of British comedy The Full Monty a critical success and box office over six unemployed men determined to solve its economic problems doing a striptease.
