Die longest filmmaker – The Universal

Madrid.- The Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, considered the most prestigious of their country and the best known internationally, died yesterday at 106 years lusos media reported.
 


 Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva, mourned the death of director he considered “the greatest symbol of Portuguese cinema in the world”, in a brief statement to the country from Belem Palace in Lisbon.
 


 


 “Portugal has lost one of the greatest exponents of the contemporary culture and much contributed to the international recognition of the country,” he said, adding that the vast work of filmmaker “will forever remain as a testimony of the Portuguese culture, he knew how to interpret as anyone, both in its popular dimension and its scholarly dimension. ”
 


 


 Manoel de Oliveira was born in Porto on December 11, 1908 and during his career made about 60 films. His latest work, the short film The Old Man of Belem, screened in 2014.
 


 


 Considered the world’s longest filmmaker, made his directorial debut at age 23 (in 1931) with the documentary Douro Faina Fluvial, which continued until several documentaries shot his first film in 1942, Aniki-Bóbó, about children of streets of Oporto.
 


 


 The international projection Oliveira came in the mid-70s, from his film Benilde, and in some of his films has had actors like Catherine Deneuve French, the American John Malkovich or Italian Marcello Mastroianni.
 


 


 It is considered a cult filmmaker in Europe and Brazil and throughout his career received, among other awards, the Golden Lion at Venice (1985) and a Palme d’Or at Cannes (2008).
 


 


 Paris so taxed. The French Minister of Culture, Fleur Pellerin, yesterday paid tribute to the filmmaker.
 


 


 “Old age was for him the harvest time, which continued to receive the fruits of a lifetime of meditation and contemplation, a life of the poet,” noted the minister in a statement also expressed condolences to their families and friends.
 


 


 Pellerin said that was the dean of the filmmakers in activity and “a creator of a fascinating energy,” which appeared in La chanson de Lisboa, first language film which was shot in Portugal, although, of course, was unveiled in the world as one of the biggest names in cinema.
 


 


 Mexico recalls. Mexican directors Julian Hernandez and Rigoberto Perezcano spoke of the work of Portuguese filmmaker and his contribution to world cinema.
 


 


 “I knew his work when I was in school and struck me as spectator; then he saw analyzed more freedom always had and always young spirit that is most important, because it was always trying how to investigate.
 


 


 “It was a filmmaker who always remained at the forefront,” Hernandez said.
