04 January, 2017 06:58Tel Aviv, 4 jan (PL) The israeli soldier Elor Azaria, who shot and killed a palestinian, wounded and helpless at the beginning of 2016, it was declared today found guilty of manslaughter for that crime by a court of Israel.
To read the court decision, the prosecutor Maya Heller held that, when shooting, the defendant was aware that his action, ‘devoid of reasons’ would lead to the death of Abdel Fatah al-Sharif, 20 years old
During the hearing, Heller was considered not valid the arguments of the defense of Azaria, according to which, this would have tripped over the wounded for fear to take a knife -that was meters away from him on the floor – which had previously attacked another soldier before being injured.
The fact that was captured on video by a member of the israeli human rights organization b’tselem, unleashed a wave of revulsion against the violence of Israel on the palestinian population.
The court must announce before one month of the penalty that will be charged to Azaria, which can reach up to 20 years in prison according to the law.
The lawyers of Azaria announced that they will appeal today’s verdict before the Military Court of Appeals.
