Asghar Farhadi confirms that it will not attend the ceremony of the Oscar 2017 – Cine Premiere

After the controversy generated by the order of Donald Trump that forbids entry to the united States to citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, has spoken about the film-maker Asghar Farhadi could not attend the ceremony, Oscar-2017, in which his film The Salesman compete for the prize for Best foreign language film.

Following statements of the Academy of Hollywood who say that the prohibition seems to them "extremely worrying", the iranian director has announced that will not be attending the ceremony next month, even if it is granted a special exception to the new measure of Trump.

through an extensive letter published by The New York Times, Farhadi described the actions of Trump as something unfair and unacceptable thing for him. Here the words that he gave to the american newspaper; one that, incidentally, has been disqualified by the new president of the USA on more than one occasion.

"I am Sorry to announce through this press release that I decided not to attend the ceremony of the Oscar with my colleagues in the film community after the unjust circumstances that have arisen in the united States for immigrants and travelers from different countries”.

"I did Not have the intention not to attend," says Farhadi, "or wanted to boycott the event in protest. As far as I know, many members of the film industry of America, and the PTAS (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) are opposed to the fanaticism and extremism that today, more than ever, is taking place [in your country]. As I told my dealer in the U.S. the day the nominations were announced, I would attend the ceremony next to my cinefotógrafo and continued to believe that might be present in this great cultural event".

"however –continues the filmmaker– now I see that our presence is conditioned to circumstances, and alternatives that are in no way acceptable to me, even if you make some exceptions for that you made my trip. Therefore, I would like to inform via this release what would you say to the press if you were to travel to the united States: The political reactionaries, despite their nationalities, political arguments and wars, look at the world almost the same way. In order to understand the world, they have no choice but to do so through a mindset of 'you and us', with which they seek to create an image of fear and inflicting terror to the population of their countries."

"This is not limited to the united States," continues the director of The Salesman. "In my country, the political reactionaries are the same. For years, on both sides of the ocean, groups of these characters have tried to introduce you to its people images terrible and unreal of a number of nations and cultures in order to transform their differences into disagreements; disagreements in enmity; and enmity in fears. Instill fear fear in the society is an important tool that is used for individuals of narrow-minded to justify their extremism and bigotry."

"however, I think that the similarities between human beings on our planet and its different latitudes, far outweigh their differences, beyond cultures and religions. I think that the root of what causes so much hostility between nations of the world today should be sought in the humiliation of mutual that was between them in the past and there is no doubt that today’s contempt will be the seed of the hostility of the morning. To humiliate a nation with the pretext of safeguarding the safety of another is not a new phenomenon in history and has laid the foundations for a future division and enmity".

"By this means, express my condemnation of the unjust conditions that have forced my countrymen and to the citizens of the other six countries that tried to enter legally to the united States of America and I hope that this current situation does not lead to more division among the nations [of the world]", ends Asghar Farhadi in a statement issued from his native Iran.
