Asghar Farhadi, one of the filmmakers iranian most recognized in the world, will not be able to travel because the president of the united States banned the entry of citizens of seven muslim-majority countries

The move has caused outrage and protests.

Asghar Farhadi, iranian filmmaker nominated for an Oscar as best foreign-language film by The Salesman (The client) will not be able to attend the ceremony of delivery of awards as a result of the new immigration policies signed by the president of the united States, Donald Trump.

This Friday, April 27, Trump decreed the temporary closure –planned for four months– the borders of the united States for immigrants from seven muslim-majority countries –also for refugees from any part of dle world. The countries banned are Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and Iran.

The ban will prevent Farhadi, who won an Oscar in 2012 for The separation, is present in the gala’s most important to Hollywood, which will be held February 26 in Los Angeles, California.

The absence of Farhadi was confirmed by Trita Parsi, president of the National Council of Iranian American, a charitable organization in Washington that looks out for the rights of immigrant iranians.

The news has generated outrage not only among the iranians, but also among different people and organizations in the world of cinema.

The Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences, that awards the Oscars, issued the following statement: “The Academy celebrates the achievements in the cinematic arts, which seeks to transcend boundaries and speak to audiences around the world, regardless of differences of national, ethnic or religious. As advocates for the filmmakers –and the human rights of all people– around the world, we consider extremely troubling that Asghar Farhadi, director film’s iranian winner of the Oscar for The separation, as well as the cast and crew of the film nominated this year, The Salesman, could be prevented from entering the country because of their religion or their country of origin”.

The actress Taraneh Alidoosti, also of iranian origin and the main character of The salesman, had already announced its intention to boycott the gala of the Oscars as a sign of protest, and described the measures of Trump as a racist.

For its part, the organization of the Tribeca Film Festival, founded by actor Robert de Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal in 1988, expressed his outrage on the Twitter account of the festival: “This is disheartening and unacceptable”.

For his part, Trump argues that the measure serves to “keep the terrorists radical islamists” outside of the united States.
