James Bond author apologizes for controversial with Idris Elba – The Universal

Anthony Horowitz, author’s family Ian Fleming commissioned to write a new novel about James Bond, apologized after unleashing a controversy in which was involved the British actor Idris Elba.

Horowitz gave a few days ago an interview with “Daily Mail” in which he was asked about the new novel and also about the possibility that a black actor interprets film 007.

In particular they asked their opinions on Idris Elba, who has been designated to become the new star of the tapes, once Daniel Craig leave paper.

“Idris Elba is a great actor, but I can you think of other black actors who would do better (named Adrian Lester). For me, Idris Elba is too hard for the role. It is not a matter of color. I think it’s very “street” to be Bond. Is ?. a matter of being soft yes “

Immediately, social networks were filled with comments against the writer, who came to clarify its position through a message on Twitter:

“I’m really sorry that my comments on Idris Elba have offended. That was not my intention. In the interview I was asked if Idris Elba would make a good James Bond. In the article I expressed the view that for me Adrian Lester would be a better choice, but I’m a writer not a casting director, so I do not know ?. Awkwardly I chose the word ‘street’ because it was in my mind the picture of Elba as Detective John Luther, but I admit it was a bad choice of words. I am mortified to have offended. “
