The posthumous work of writer Jose Saramago, a plea against … – Faro de Vigo

“Halberds, Halberds! Muskets, muskets!”, A plea against arms trafficking, is the posthumous work of Nobel Prize José Saramago published today in the Portugal

His widow and Spanish translator, Pilar del Rio told Efe that the book of Saramago (1922-2010) is a message from “violence, war and barbarism” in a world that increasingly proliferate the presence of weapons in Europe, as in Latin America or the Middle East.

“We publish the texts as they were,” said Spanish journalist, who said that the chapters that the writer had left work perfectly as a story.

The book, to be released on 1 and 27 October in Spain and Brazil, respectively.

“Halberds, Halberds! muskets, muskets”, title taken from a verse of Portuguese playwright Gil Vicente, is an unfinished book that the author had begun in late 2009 and had continued in February 2010.

The book will be officially launched on 2 October in Lisbon and will be accompanied by figures such as Judge Baltazar Garzon and Italian writer Roberto Saviano.

Above all, the goal of this release is argued against “barbarism” and war, he added Del Rio.
