Dies conductor british Neville Marriner – El Universal (Venezuela)

London- The violinist and director of orchestra british Neville Marriner died today at the age of 92 years, reported the chamber orchestra Academy St. Martin in the Fields, founded by the late musician.

Marriner, who was born in 1924 in the English city of Lincoln, recorded during his extensive career works that span the baroque music and romantic to contemporary composers, reported Dpa.

For his services to music, queen Elizabeth II of England named Marriner in 1975 Commander of the Order of the British Empire and in 1985 he was granted the title of knight.

the president of the academy, Paul Aylieff, said in a statement that “the artistic legacy and a record of Sir Neville in the world (…) is enormous.”

Marriner, added Aylieff, “will be cast very much by all who knew him and worked with him, and the academy will ensure that it will remain an excellent and suitable testament to Sir Neville.

The late director was “one of human beings most extraordinary I’ve ever known”, stated for his part, the musical director of the academy, Joshua Bell. “I will remind him for his brilliance, his integrity and his sense of humor, both on the podium as well as outside it,” added Bell.
