“The rock has been my therapy”: Bruce Springsteen reflects on his depression – Teletrece

Bruce Springsteen released his autobiography, “Born to run” (2016) and revealed a part of his intimate life and unknown. That which, until now, only shared with his loneliness or his or her immediate family: the depression.

even Though his wife did not agree, “The Boss” is set to recognize the disease that has affected him in the most important moments of his career, and that through his own music trying to calm down. And purpose of the publication of the book —which also contains an album called “Chapter and verse”, with previously unreleased tracks and greatest hits— the icon of american song reflected on some passages of his life in a conversation next to different journalists in London.

The rock has been my therapy. And I would say more: exhaustion. Forcing the limits of my endurance, thinking that if you are sufficiently tired you don’t have the strength to think if you’re depressed,” said Springsteen.

The man of “Born in the U. S. A.” he claimed in his book that drove down the roads of New Jersey as if the miles could repair the damage done. Because the musician lived a difficult childhood, of a family of low resources and a stormy relationship with his father, diagnosed belatedly with the same disease.

“I Dreamed of a life in which, in fact, you might live”, reminded Springsteen.

And beyond its history, it is exactly that personal approach to the depression that it could help other people suffering from the disease to deal with it: “that’s why, with the book I’ve tried to reflect on my fall depressed, that come with my father, but also of the communication with myself, with my family and my community.”
