The Italian Police recovered two paintings by Van Gogh stolen in 2002 – RPP News

The financial police Italian announced Friday the recovery of two paintings by the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh that had been stolen from the museum dedicated to the artist in the Dutch city of Amsterdam.

It comes to fabrics, “The protestant church of Noenen”, dated between 1884 and 1885, and “The beach of Scheveningen fear the storm”, 1882. The theft occurred on December 7, 2002 at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The FBI placed the theft in the ‘top 10 of the best thefts of art”. The thieves climbed down a ladder, broke a window in the roof, is let down by a rope to the inside, scoffing at the alarms and the guards, and stole two paintings by the Dutch painter.

Operating. The Italian police said that some of the members of the band that stole the boxes had been arrested some time ago. The two works of Van Gogh, were found unexpectedly within a safe deposit box of a small shop in Castellammare di Stabia (near Naples) during an operation against the mafia.

Vincent van Gogh was one of the leading exponents of post-impressionism, and is currently considered one of the great masters of the history of painting. The quality of his work was only recognized after his death. He died at the age of 37 by a bullet wound gun; still not sure if it was a suicide or involuntary manslaughter.
