The new trilogy of Star Wars seems to be focusing on one woman. The upcoming film “The Awakening of force” has a female protagonist, King, who will assume leadership of Princess Leia. However, there seems to be more women making their mark in upcoming episodes of the franchise.
According to TheWrap, “the Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez (‘Lady Jane’) nominee Golden Globe Tatiana Maslany (‘Orphan Black’) and Olivia Cooke (‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’) are the main contenders for the new female lead role of “Star Wars: Episode VIII”.

Maslany was supposedly one of the finalists for the role in “Rogue One: A Story Star Wars.”, but Felicity Jones finally got the role.
If Rodriguez joins the party, she would join Oscar Isaac and possibly Benicio del Toro as the Latin American representatives in the new franchise. It has been rumored that del Toro will join the cast of Episode 8 as a villain. But there has been no confirmation yet.
Meanwhile, Olivia Cooke rose to stardom this summer with one of the leading roles in the tragic “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl “. Although the film was released in the summer, the actress could be winning prizes in the campaign. She is also in the running for “Ready Player One” by Steven Spielberg.
Rian Johnson is scheduled to direct the eighth episode of the franchise “Star Wars”. He is also writing the script and the film has scheduled a release date of May 26, 2017. In order to meet that release date, you have to shoot the film in the first half of 2016 and to devote the last part of the year to edit.
