New museum in Paris will host contemporary art – El Diario de Yucatan

         


     

PARIS (Notimex) .- The historic building of the former Stock Exchange in the French capital will host a museum private collection of contemporary art of the Pinault family, considered one of the best worldwide, announced today the mayor Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

the new museum in central Paris, a few meters from the Louvre Museum, will be opened in late 2018 and will house the collection, which started dad husband Mexican actress Salma Hayek, Francois Pinault, and partially located for years in the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Italy.

 

“We will be lucky, the chance to have Pinault collection. It’s a great proposal to have finally here this magnificent collection, “said Hidalgo news conference, accompanied by the founder of the collection, billionaire Francois Pinault.

Hidalgo said the museum, which will be in circular beautiful building located at one end of the newly renovated district of les Halles, will feature permanent and temporary exhibitions.

“it is an exceptional gift that makes our city,” said the socialist mayor of the capital French, who for years fought for the collection, the Pinault family decided initially present in a Venetian palace by disagreements with the French authorities.

Pinault, who owns some estimates about three thousand 500 major works contemporary art, also expressed satisfaction with the installation of its collection in the capital of France, his native country, for an initial period of 50 years.

Pinault said the museum “does not yet have a definitive name” and responsible for their collection indicated that no “away (works) to Venice,” but will be “complementary” to the collection and exhibited in Italy and give an “international dimension” their works and will acquire in the future.

the City of Paris will invest 21 million euros (23.7 million dollars) in the museum and will remain the owner of the building.
