They steal valuable works of Tintoretto and Rubens Museum Castelvecchio – La Cronica de Hoy

A total of seventeen paintings, including some of Tintoretto and Peter Paul Rubens, were stolen from the museum of Castelvecchio and valued at $ 16 million, in the Italian city of Verona, he said yesterday the council said in a statement.
 The incident took place late Thursday afternoon when the museum was still open, “just when the exchange between workers and responsible for surveillance.” During that time the antitheft systems of the institution and motion sensors had not yet been activated.
 Thus thieves dressed in black and after immobilizing the guard guarding the building were able to keep seventeen artworks, including five of Tintoretto and Lady delle Licnidi, Rubens.
 The museum director Paola Marini, said the robbery on Thursday evening, when three men, two of them armed, stormed the museum, in the historic center of Verona, and after gagging a cashier was performed forced a guard to bring to theaters to seize the works.
 “It’s a huge damage,” said Marini, who estimated at 15 million euros (16 million dollars) the value of the stolen paintings.
 The other stolen paintings are the work of artists such as Pisanello, Jacopo Bellini, Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Francesco Caroto, Hans de Jode and Giovanni Benini.
 The mayor of Verona, Flavio Tosi, said that the robbers were professionals and “know what to steal and knew the museum.”
 “Surely someone ordered them because they moved with skill, playing it safe,” adding told local media that the stolen works “are practically the most beautiful exposed”.
 A note also stressed that security at the museum had increased since 2005, when a video surveillance system was implemented.
 In total, the museum has 48 cameras distributed inside the building and many others located in the vicinity and the images recorded have already been put at the disposal of the police to try to clarify the responsibility for the theft.
