Germany withdraws its candidate for Eurovision controversial lyrics – Reuters Spain

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany withdrew on Saturday its candidate for Eurovision next year after a backlash from critics who accuse the artist of R &. B of the use of anti-Semitic and homophobic insults in their songs

Xavier Naidoo, singer of Indian and African origin whose albums have sold millions of copies, He was selected as a candidate by the German public television ARD on Thursday, but the controversy caused in newspapers and social networks led to a rapid change of course.

Reacting to the decision to withdraw his candidacy, the musician of 44 years said on Facebook “for me it’s okay,” and stressed that the ARD had urged him to compete in the first place.

Earlier this week, the artist rejected criticism of his appointment, saying it represented a Germany that was “open to the world” and was tolerant of different religions and lifestyles.

Germany, which ranked last in the edition of last year, appoint a new contender as soon as possible, said Thomas Schreiber, chief of the ARD.
