Critics of Hollywood gave their awards to movies and TV – The Observer

The Land was crowned Sunday night as the best film of the year to get 8 statuettes of the Critics’ Choice Awards, the awards of the Film Critics to the best of the year in film and television in the united States.

The musical The Land: a love story, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and directed by Damien Chazelle, won Best film and Best director. Account of the romance between the characters of Stone and Gosling in a format that pays homage to the old musicals of Hollywood.

“It occurs to me that many of us here grew up in Los Angeles or come for a dream, and I wanted the film to be about these dreamers, so I want to dedicate this to all the dreamers in all the world,” said Chazelle after receiving his award as a director.

The film will premiere in cinemas of Uruguay on the 5th of January.

Other winners

Casey Affleck was recognized as Best actor for his work in Manchester by the Sea. Affleck, unlike his brother Ben received the attention of the critics intermittently, is one of the great promises in this season of awards and a strong candidate to be considered as a nominee into the Academy.

Natalie Portman was awarded Best actress for her starring role in Jackie, the chilean director Pablo Larraín. After a time out from acting to devote herself to motherhood, Portman returned to the big screen playing the character of Jacqueline Kennedy, a memorable one for the american community.

Among the awardees of the tv, Game of Thrones received the award for Best drama series, while Bob Odenkirk – Better Call Saul- and Evan Rachel Wood – Westworld- won the award for Best actor in a drama and Best actress in a drama respectively.

Silicon Valley on HBO, was recognized as Best comedy series.

These awards are in addition to the run-up to the Oscars, which will be delivered in February, and are taken up by the critics, the press and the directors themselves to establish a panorama of the face of the most important night for the film industry world.

The Critics’ Choice Awards are organized since 1996 by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA).
