The Galaxy lost to his princess: Carrie Fisher, 1956-2016 – The Nation Costa Rica

"death is a natural part of the life is. Rejoice for those around you that the Force is transformed. Llorarlos you should not. Añorarlos, either."

If only the wisdom of master Yoda could serve as a consolation on a day like this! Carrie Fisher was, and will always be a daughter of the Force, an icon for many generations, the pillar of one of the most fantastic stories, a heroine of transcendence incalculable.

The death of the Princess Leia was never among the screenplays for Star Wars. In fact, "hope" was the last word that we hear from the mouth of his character in the saga. However, yesterday it became a drink amarguísimo and real, when the news of the death of Fisher exploded in the u.s. media.

"With a great sorrow, Billie Lourd confirmed that his beloved mother, Carrie Fisher, passed away at 8:55 in the morning [hour of The Angels]," says a press release issued by the spokesman of the family, Simon Halls.

The actress 60 years had suffered a cardiac arrest on the 24th of December, while he was returning on a flight from London, where he promoted his latest book, The Pricess Diarist .

Among other topics, in this publication semiautobiográfica Fisher admitted his romance with the actor Harrison Ford –married, with two children and 14 years older than her, who in the series played the pilot-smuggler, Han Solo, the eternal lover of Leia.

"it Was so intense… we Were Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekends," wrote the actress, who for almost three decades he devoted himself to literature, using the more crude bits and pieces of your own life.

In fact, this obituary –much to our own sorrow– disobeys the wishes pre-mortem of the rebel Princess, externados by your own fist and letter in his monologue theatre became a book in 2008, Wishful Drinking.

"I Think this would be fantastic for an obituary: tell them to my friends more young people that no matter how I go, I want to report that I ahogué under the light of the moon, smothered by my own bra".

The words of Fisher are not a mere occurrence or a product of his bipolar disorder or his addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Your strange request reveals more what she felt for the director George Lucas and the saga that brought her to fame, or well, the one who "ruined" his career.

In the book, Fisher recalls what happened on his first day of filming, when Lucas saw her adorned in her famous white dress.

"you can’t wear a bra," said the filmmaker. "There is No underwear in space." Of course, because it is obvious that there are no bras, but panties golden. Luke then explains the reason, an argument to which Fisher added his personal touch of sarcasm.

"What happens is that you go to the space and no longer pesás. Very good up there, isn’t it? But, what about when your body to expand? Your bra will not do so, so that you estrangularías", said Luke. Fisher joked later that his obituary would read: "Died in the light of the moon, strangled by your own bra".

Victim of its own success. The daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds was only 19 years old when he was selected for the role of Leia in the tape of Luke.

For then, the only film in which his name appeared among the credits was Shampoo (1975), in which she played a secondary role.

however, the role of Leia released her to a stardom unexpected. As he said in an interview in 2011 with Newsweek , was too naive to negotiate their rights with Lucasfilm. Ford, who then was 33 years old, nor put any objection, which inspired him confidence to Fisher to sign your contract.

"The mistake was to give my image for free. In those days, there was something like 'the image', which is funny considering the family I come from. There was not marketing related to the movies. No one could have anticipated the scope of the exemption. Not that I think that I’m not cute or something, but when I looked in the mirror, I didn’t believe that I was giving up something of value," he said.

"Then, I felt that it was as Minnie Mouse. The identity of Princess Leia eclipsed any other identity I may have had," he added.

Well, the depression welled up when Fisher began to see in the supermarkets socks with his image or even a decoration for cupcakes for which she paid. Also, he knew that the became a type of marijuana, a complete irony if one takes into consideration that he never liked smoking weed.

In that interview, in fact, Fisher acknowledged that the consumption of drugs was one of the great errors of his life, but the past month has also admitted to Rolling Stone have been a lot of fun with the mushrooms and acid.

As said, the LSD was his refuge in the midst of what initially was diagnosed as manic-depression, now better known as bipolar disorder.

"don’t think I have been suicidal, and probably has to do with the drugs. I had… I have this mood disorder, then it is likely that they saved me from the feelings more intense. I was able to silence all of that. And loved the LSD. It was fantastic," he said to Rolling Stone , at the time that he admitted to have been tempted in recent times to return to eating that psychedelic.

impulse led her to marry in 1984 with the musician Paul Simon, but just a year later, were divorced.

Also had a relationship between 1991 and 1994 with the agent of talent, Bryan Lourd, but culminated when he confessed bisexual.

The failed relationships became a ghost to Fisher, who in the 80′s didn’t get bigger roles in the tapes Hannah and Her Sisters , Woody Allen, and When Harry Met Sally…

Then, write about your life –and even make fun of itself– was not only a means of livelihood, but also a peculiar therapy.

it Was until 1987, when he published Postcards from the Edge , Fisher finally managed to set a new north outside of her role as Leia Organa.

The comedy clearly autobiographical, but partially, it was adapted for film in 1990 by director Mike Nichols and earned her a nomination for the Oscar to Meryl Streep as best actress in a leading role.

at The same time, it opened the door for Fisher to become a respected consultant of hyphen, who is polished, for example, the phrases of Bell in The return of Captain Hook (1991) or the full script of lethal Weapon 3 (1992).

however, it would be forever his role in Star Wars which would define the life and death of the actress. "I am princess Leia, no matter what. If you were trying to get a good table at a restaurant, I would not say that I wrote Postcards . Or if I’m trying to get someone to accept my check and I do not have identification, would not say: ‘have You seen When Harry Met Sally… ?’. Princess Leia will be on my tombstone," joked any time.

And so it was. Today, his death represents a duel galactic by Leia, the rebel, who seized the weapons, a sex symbol who managed to bring down the treasonous plans of the Dark Side. It will sound cliché, but it is fair and necessary for good very much their style: Let the Force be with you, Carrie Fisher!
