Writer of Overwatch talks about the diversity of their characters – LEVELUP

Yesterday, Blizzard released a comic book to Overwatch in which he clarifies the sexual orientation of Tracer, making clear its intention to have diverse characters. Recently, Michael Chu spoke with little about it in a chat with GameSpot, and pointed out that the members of Blizzard are inspired by all the diversity that there is in the world.

"I Think that really we were inspired by all the diversity of our world. Different cultures, history, the various popular cultures that are in different locations, such as anime and manga, movies and comics; we wanted to inspire us in all these things," he said.

according To Chu, the diversity is something very important for Blizzard and the development team of Overwatch, and it is something that you can explore in your comic series. The above in that you can explore the personal life of the characters, so that took advantage of their Christmas story for us to see with your loved ones.

"What excites us so much about this comic is that it is rare that we have the opportunity to see the personal life of the characters. I think that when we were talking about how it would be a comic book Christmas, we thought it would be a great opportunity to see these characters away from the field of battle and show your friends, family and loved ones. Just display them in a different place," noted Chu.

unfortunately, the Russian players will not be able to read this comic strip ―Reflections― because it is not available in your country. According to Blizzard, they decided not to publish it in this region by "the climate of [political] in Russia and feedback legal" and not because the Russian government the ban, as originally intended.

To end, Chu talked about how to decide what kind of characters add to the game. According to the writer, have several ideas of characters crazy and some of them ―like the Ana― were conceived years before they found how to implement them in the game.

"What about a healer based on skill? We have gone through a lot of different ideas; our designer heroes, Jeff Goodman, had suggested an alchemist. I don’t remember exactly how it happened, but somebody said, 'what if we add to Ana? She was a sniper' and think that we couldn’t do it because we already had a Widowmaker, how was I going to work? Ana was a character on which we talk about for years. When we were talking about the character Pharah, we wanted to that their parents were a big influence, and we think 'great, we have this character named Hannah that is very important,' but we never thought we would end up in the game. But thanks to this idea, we had the opportunity," he said.

What do you think of the varied roster of characters of Overwatch? What is your favorite? Tell us in the comments.
