Michael Cimino dies, director of “The Deer Hunter” – BBC World

Michael Cimino, director of the iconic film about the Vietnam war, the Deer Hunter ( “sniper” or “the Hunter”), died at age 77 at his home in Los Angeles.

Eric Weissmann, his friend and exabogado reported Cimino’s body was discovered at his home on Saturday after his friends had been unable to contact him.
