Vitoria still worshiping Cécile McLorin and Pat Metheny – W Radio

Pablo Madariaga.

Vitoria (Spain), July 16 (EFE) .- Pat Metheny and the public of Vitoria Jazz Festival (North) continue to live a love affair that has lasted nearly 30 years . His guitar and bass Ron Carter opened last evening, which ended with a superb performance of the also American singer Cécile McLorin Salvant who has returned to conquer this stage for the second time.

Metheny was here only 4 years ago. On that occasion he made a memorable concert with his Unity Band, producing one of the most contemporary sounds that are remembered in this scenario. Tonight did not touch that, tonight played back to essences with another great musician something greater than himself, as Ron Carter.

Today, only with guitar and bass, played a more intimate and relaxed proposal, the two musicians have been able to develop brilliantly. Carter is a musician who comes from the factory Miles Davis and has spent most of his career with the Blue Note label.

However, together they have brought to the exhibition a scent that reminded especially sound the label ECM, which marked the evolution of this music for at least the last two decades of the twentieth century, and which Metheny was joined during the first part of his career.

throughout the week , Mendizorroza registered an impressive entrance, which proves the correctness of the festival program at this 40th edition which ended today and that has combined jazz with other relatively close styles.

in principle most surprising the program has been the order of the two concerts tonight, as if only by rank, seemed more logical that Metheny and Carter had touched the end.

it was not a bad decision, because Cécile McLorin and his group, a classical piano trio bass and drums, have brought a joy very welcome on a Saturday night.

joy but also emotion. Florida singer, a woman of 28 years, apart from his voice that sounded cleaning with the sounding things here, has the sensitivity to make a melody into something important, at least for a moment of time. And he has done sounding jazz. Swing, big band, blues as much, nothing else

He has also done from a humble attitude on stage, without demanding anything from the public, yet offering a lot. She and her band, which has been handled with ease, with brightness at times. Cécile has offered everything he has and has given the impression that it was from the heart.

It was a clever way to end a festival that has served 40 years and continues to maintain sufficient vitality to propose music almost always interesting, even if not strictly gender. Jazz has always needed open minds. EFE
