Unesco added four sites to the World Heritage List – The Universal

Unesco today signed four new sites in China, India, Iran and Micronesia in the list of World Heritage at the annual meeting of the international organization in Istanbul, reported today in a statement.

the first is a cultural landscape of rock art in Zuojiang Huashan (people’s Republic of China), consisting of 38 sites that illustrate the life and rituals of the people “Luoyue” created between the V century BC and II

century.

This landscape, so far the only evidence we possess of that culture, is located on the southwest border of China.

Another of the places that has entered part of World Heritage list is an archaeological site in Nalanda, northeast India, in the state of Bihar, composed of archaeological remains of a large monastery “Mahavihara”.

from the century III BC until the thirteenth century AD the monastery was carried out an important religious and educational activity.

also entered the list once “qanats” that form the ancient irrigation system in Iran taking water aquifers at the top of the valleys and circulate through underground tunnels often measure several kilometers.

According to Unesco, the “qanats” exceptional evidence of cultural traditions and civilizations desert areas of arid climate.

Finally, the ceremonial center of the Eastern Micronesia, “Nan Madol”, composed of 99 islands created between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries with basaltic columns and blocks of coral, it was also listed by the World Heritage Committee of Unesco.

These islands are home to vestiges of palaces, temples, tombs and dwellings of stone that were the ceremonial center of the Saudeleur dynasty.

in addition, “Nan Madol” was also inscribed on the list of world heritage in danger because of threats against him, particularly the silting of waterways, which promotes the uncontrolled growth of mangroves and weakens constructions.
