Garry Marshall, the director of “Pretty Woman”, dies at 81 – BBC World

Garry Marshall, the creator of legendary television series in the United States as “Happy Days” and “Laverne and Shirley” and director the blockbuster movie “Pretty woman” ( “Pretty woman”), died at 81 years of age.

Marshall died in a hospital in Burbank, California, after complications from pneumonia, after suffered stroke , Michelle Bega his publicist.

He was a prolific and talented director, producer and writer of film and television. He wrote famous series like “The Odd Couple” and “ Mork and Mindy ” series that gave him fame Robin Williams.

Garry Marshall leaves his wife, Barbara, and three children.

born in New York and studied journalism at university but started in the entertainment writing jokes for other actors .

Soon after, he became librettist of several successful TV series that caught the attention of comedian Joey Bishop, who took him to Los Angeles as a writer of the show Joey Bishop.

in the mid-70s, Marshall created “Happy Days” ( “Happy Days”), one of the television series most remembered casting her a nostalgic life of an American family in the early 60s, before the equestrian look, race riots and protests against the Vietnam war.

in the 80s jumped to the big screen to direct perhaps the film which will be most remembered: the blockbuster “Pretty Woman” , which launched a Julia Roberts to stardom
