Without evidence, Sony cyber attack North Korea: China – The Universal

China said Monday that opposes all forms of cyber attacks, but added
there is no evidence that North Korea was responsible for the cyber attack against Sony Pictures, and said the United States has.

North Korea denied responsibility for the incident and promised to respond to any US retaliation, threats to the White House and the Pentagon.
The perpetrators of the computer attack said they were outraged by Sony comedy about the fictional assassination of the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un.

The computer attack and subsequent threats of violence against cinemas led Sony to cancel the premiere of the comedy “The Intervi ew”, whose premiere was scheduled for the holiday season year end.

China made no reference to US calls for joint action with Beijing and other actors to counter similar cyberattacks.

“Before coming to any conclusion must be a full report of the facts and fundamentals,” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Hua Chunying.

“China will handle it in accordance with relevant international and Chinese laws according to the facts,” he said.

The official said the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, “reaffirmed the important position of China, noting that China all forms of cyber attacks and cyber terrorism is opposed” in a conversation he had on Sunday with Secretary of State John Kerry.

China is the only major ally of N orth Korea and would be central to any effort by the United States to take action against the isolated state.

But the United States has also accused China of cyber espionage in the past and a US official said the attack on Sony could have used Chinese servers to hide their origin.

South Korea, still technically at war with North Korea said Monday that computer systems operator of nuclear plants had been infiltrated and
non-critical data were stolen, but that there was no risk to nuclear installations or reactors.

President Barack Obama and his advisers are weighing how to punish North Korea after the FBI concluded Friday that Pyongyang was responsible for the attack on Sony.

It is the first time the United States directly accuses another country of a cyberattack that level in its territory and opens the possibility of a new confrontation between the old
 foes Washington and Pyongyang.
