The British director John Guillermin , known especially for" The Towering Inferno "(1974) and " King Kong " (1976), he died Sunday of a heart attack at his home in Topanga Canyon (California) at age 89, the family reported Thursday.

The wife of filmmaker confirmed the news on their official Facebook profile, and said her husband was a "sensitive and passionate, full of ferocity" person.

The prolific career of Guillermin, active since the late 1940, includes works such as "Death on the Nole", "Shaft in Africa", "The Blue Max", "PJ" and "House of Cards". Those last three films were starring George Peppard.
