Leonardo DiCaprio buys rights for film about Volkswagen scandal – ElEspectador.com

Leonardo DiCaprio has bought the rights to a book yet to be written on the scandal of emissions of Volkswagen (VW) to produce a film about the attempt to deceive regulators, reported the US media Tuesday.

The producer Appian Way , owned by actor and Paramount Pictures have acquired the rights of the editorial project of the journalist of The New York Times Jack Ewing on the business philosophy behind the scandal emissions from diesel vehicles of the German manufacturer.

In early September, the US regulators revealed that Volkswagen had used for years software for hide in emission controls the actual level of pollution of its diesel engines.

The German motor giant, which became the world’s largest automaker in the first half of the year, acknowledged having used a computer system for the past seven years to show lower emissions controls in its main markets and diesel models.

Volkswagen faces a possible fine of up to 18,000 million dollars from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the United States.

The rights to the book on the scandal, which still are discovering details, they were sold earlier this month to the publishing Norton for several million dollars. The book aims to investigate the philosophy of “more, faster and better” after the scandal.

DiCaprio has produced successful films as “ The Wolf of Wall Street ” “Runner Runner” or “Out of the Furnace”. His next appearance will be as an actor in the new film by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, “ The Revenant .”
