Royal Spanish Academy launches new digital version of its dictionary – PanamaOn

This work has
93 000 111 entries, compared to 88,000 the previous 431 2001 195 000 439 and includes meanings, including almost 19,000 Americanisms and about 140 thousand amendments to some 49,000 items.

Some new words are the burka, cyclogenesis, coach, hijab, homoparental, quad and wifi, and colloquial Americanisms as amigovio (fusion of friend and boyfriend) and papichulo (man who, by his good looks, is the object of desire) .

A new digital version including clarification of offensive or discriminatory connotations like some tricky for gypsy racist qualified representatives of the people.

Previously the Romani Union called for the resignation of the director of the Royal Academy of Language, Dario Villanueva, for refusing to suppress term and the Ombudsman proposed at least clarify that it is a negative or derogatory expression.

The Academy argued that it suppresses the meanings or offensive definitions for certain groups because they are words used.

Given this argument Roma Union recalled that, instead, the RAE dictionary defines as a Nazi “belonging or relating to National Socialism” and “supporter of National Socialism,” but does not qualify as murderers and enemies mankind.
