Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, explained in five minutes with spoilers – Hipertextual

Hosting Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has not been the expected . While the play success among critics and the public, written in the same adaptation is raising hackles among fans, with many refuse to consider this eighth story of the canonical saga created by JK Rowling in 1999.

But what happens in history that has been received in this way? Here are our criticism without any spoiler , but if you want to go further, we will thresh what Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has to offer. Obviously, barrage of spoilers immediate .

JK Rowling and Jack Thorne tell us the first years at Hogwarts Albus Severus Potter, son of Harry and Ginny, and Scorpius Malfouy son of Draco and Astoria . The first, overwhelmed by what is supposed to be the son of “child survived”; . The second, marked by all as the possible son of Voldemort, because of the alleged problems of infertility from their parents

On the other hand, of course, we have the old acquaintances : Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Draco work in the background; as a mentor and maintaining a parallel plot. In the end, the core of the book skims the family drama, focused on Harry, Albus relationship.

The problem, from the premise

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 2

The starting point of the adventure live our protagonists is save from death Cedric Diggory , making use of the “single turner that has not been destroyed.” The reason for this decision by Albus and Scorpius, children 14 years old that endanger their lives for someone who never even knew and he’s been dead for over twenty years, is nothing more than a tantrum just to annoy Harry Potter. Literally.

Roza how amazing that in such a rich and extremely profound as the one created by J.K Rowling universe, will have to resort to that time to give rise to a new adventure. Everything thus feels known, fondled and little fresh. In fact, we will read situations where Polyjuice used, others in which hand Marauder’s Map shows, back for the umpteenth time to the day when Voldemort killed the parents of Harry, will visit again Tournament Triwizard and ultimately, we will ride on a wheel driven by nostalgia and lack of ideas .

Theories, speculations and fanfiction

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 4

From the same decision, see JK Rowling and Jack Thorne decide to break the rules established so far and make the time turner to create parallel timelines, and find ourselves with a spiral of situations caused by the famous “butterfly effect”.

when the time comes, everything goes as surprising

And here is beginning to show tone fanfiction that soaks the book , meeting with many of the situations that fans of the series speculated at the time: the various mistakes Albus and Scorpius to travel back in time lead them to parallel universes where Army Voldemort won the Battle of Hogwarts and rules with an iron fist where Snape still alive, in which Hermione and Ron are not a couple and where Harry Potter died.

Some situations have some logic and they are well taken but others, such as running into Snape, feel too forced and lack of logic. Other “details” as Cedric Diggory, a leading Hufflepuff student, ends up becoming a Death Eater because his teammates laughed at him after his failure in the tournament Goblet of Fire are directly risible.

absurd twists and Deus Ex Machina

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 5

But the problems that the story presented in practically all are nothing compared to what we see in the final stretch. The time (and space) lines of the two main groups are separated and, eventually, Scorpius and Albus require the help of Harry and company. How do they get? Using a pair of objects in the room Albus himself to send a message to the parallel universe of their parents.

The character of Delphi is an absolute error, from any perspective

The problem? During the adventure, they strive to emphasize that neither Harry nor Ginny had stepped on the child’s room since he left. And, of course, just at the time when the message is sent, both are in the same place with the same object in view. Again, everything seems improvised and written convenience, regardless of the internal logic or impact .

The biggest problem of the text, however, drags the character of Delphi . Presented at source (and, again, rashly) as premium Cedric Diggory, collaborate with Albus and Scorpius on their adventure to the end, prove to be the daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange . Yes, of course, something as stressed as the possibility that Scorpius Malfoy was the son of Voldemort ends desmintiéndose and we explained that the Dark Lord and Bellatrix had offspring shortly before the Battle of Hogwarts, which does not fit at all with what we read and saw at the time .

in the end, the best is in the details

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 3

Albus Severus Potter is not the typical youthful hero , doubt, renounces his legacy and ends entering Slytherin. It is a promising and disruptive start in the best sense but, unfortunately, all this ends up being in the background, wasting such a starting point.

With However, certain moments fall in love fans

on the other hand, one of the best moments comes from the hand of the curious revelation related to the woman in charge of carrying the sweet trolley at Hogwarts Express : it is neither more nor less, a century-old witch with great power and the ability to transform into a creature with sharp claws. A small detail unimportant but it works perfectly when deepening sense in what is already known.

Finally, the book knows explode at some time or another, the fact that the old players now chafe forty and have other concerns . They are the least, yes, but occasional conversation between Ron and Hermione, Harry and Ginny or confrontation between Draco and Harry in the kitchen are great situations.

Errata initially we confused the house that belonged Cedric Diggory and noted as a student of Gryffindor, as has always been an illustrious member of Hufflepuff. We apologize and rectify.
