Die Canadian filmmaker Arthur Hiller, director of “Love Story” – El Nuevo Diario – El Nuevo Diario • Nicaragua

The Canadian filmmaker Arthur Hiller, who in 1970 directed the movie “Love Story”, died Tuesday in Los Angeles at age 92 of natural causes, said the Academy which awards the Oscars, he chaired in the 1990s.

in addition to “Love Story”, which earned him to be nominated for the Oscar, Hiller directed some thirty films, including “the Americanization of Emily” (1964 ) and “the Man in the Glass Booth” (1975).

“we are very saddened by the death of our dear friend Arthur Hiller,” wrote Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy, said in a statement.

“I joined the council during his presidency and was lucky to see firsthand his devotion to the Academy and his passion for visual storytelling,” he added.

Born in Edmonton, in the Canadian province of Alberta, filmmaker served in the air force of his country during World War , before tackling the race director, first on Canadian television and then in Hollywood.

in the twilight of a prolific career, he led the union of directors of American cinema between 1989 and 1993 and was president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences from 1993 to 1997.

Twice father and grandfather five times in 2001 Hiller received the Jean Hersholt humanitarian award for his charitable activities, eductaivas and civil rights.
